(Germán) Week 1: PROCESS WRITING
Hi everyone! (but most specifically my professors)
I am here another year trying to improve my written English, in fact, along this post I will talk about methods and resources that I use in order to gain more and more knowledge concerning English language.
You cannot develop a doctrine if you are not familiarized with it. Usually the teaching process of a knowledge is focused on the point and anything else, however, the contextualization and the environment in which that tenet takes place is as important as the point itself. Thus, the best way to improve your written English, and therefore, your English Language level is by understanding English as a whole.
Well, it seems obvious that the more you do something, the best you will be realizing that activity, but in this case is basically the more effective process to acquire a better level of English. I always say that the best way to learning English is by immersing on it. Try to be surrounded by English, TV series, music, web pages, books. If your environment is consolidated by a foreign language, it will speed up the learning process.
Be surrounded, but get involved too. Reading a book or listening a song in English is great to adapt the language into your daily life, but is not that easy, you must put your effort, trying to understand the phonemes of the song and trying to comprehend the literary structures, and then, apply that knowledge into your using of English.
Languages are commonly set out by a wrong point of view. Grammar and lexical are important, I agree with that, but the methodology should lays on a more useful way to comprehend the language itself. The Art and the Culture both are tools and vehicles to ease the hard task of learning a language.
Lastly, I will recommend several web pages that help me to improve English by this "method" I try to follow.
- Concerning Music, I use Genius lyrics, where you can look for the lyrics of almost any song, and besides, usually each verse is explained by the users, so you can read the interpretations (accurate or not) by hundreds of people.
-In the realm of Films, is simply: try to watch each work in original version subtitled in English (if possible.) Nowadays there are many platforms such as Netflix or Youtube that provide a huge catalogue of cinematography works.
-Literature may be difficult to understand, even in your mother tongue, but pages such as Shmoop or Sparknotes are the key to go deeper in the plot, the characters, the topics or whatever that concerns with the work you are reading. On them we can find summaries, interpretations, typical doubts etc.
Books, Music, Films... you do not need anything else. Well, food is important too but who cares 🤷♀️
