(Teresa) Week 3: IN THE PUBLIC EYE
Everything that implies being in the public eye has its advantages and disadvantages
Let's take a very simple example, I like to sing and everything that has to do with music, but I think you have to pay a high price to be known worldwide. If they gave me a choice, I would probably prefer not to be famous or at least not very known around the world. Your life, your family, your friends and your relationships are mediated. Being in the public eye means that your life is exposed publicly, beyond your merits or what you have been recognized. In my case I see a great downside, photos, reports and magazines. Sometimes people are extorted too much by the press.
We have all had a bad day and if a photographer comes and takes a picture without realising it, and then you appear on the cover of a magazine, I honestly would not like to deal with that, one day after another day by day. At least I would not be ready.
Criticism is another thing that you have to be well-trained in order to not be knocked down by people. Being in the public eye on the other hand allows you to have more voice to express your ideas and to be heard. For example you can help organizations or talk about a problem and make the rest of the world more conscious about it.
But it is very clear that to be in the public eye requires being tenacious and well trained for your wave of haters that that come along unavoidable with your best admires.
